Here are three tips from me, as a Recruitment business owner, about how to manage your Recruiter relationship well, and get them singing your praises, and more importantly, securing that next role!
❤️ Tip Number One: Make sure they are a niche Recruiter
You love them like a soulmate because - You value their opinions
You need your Recruiter to know your industry inside out. What events do they attend? What connections do they have within the industry? How do they keep their knowledge of the industry current and relevant? What can they tell you are the biggest challenges in the industry and what’s on the horizon? What career advice can they give you about your personal development plans and what you need to be concentrating on to position yourself in your market?
❤️ Tip Number Two: Use Trusted Recommendations
You love them like a soulmate because - You don’t ever want to let them go
As an industry professional you will have many contacts that will have used Niche Recruiters to help them secure their roles in the past. Who would they recommend that you hunt out and hound? Ask around?
Finding a Recruiter that you know, like and trust can mean that you end up with a long-term relationship for your whole career journey. You can rely on them for basic career advice, coaching and personal development planning throughout your entire career. It shouldn’t just be a one-time transaction.
❤️ Tip Number Three: Know, Like and Trust
You love them like a soulmate because – You feel safe and secure in their hands
You should feel totally at ease with the right Niche Recruiter championing and marketing you to perspective clients, your perspective new employers. This is where the trust comes in. This Recruiter you are putting your faith in is talking to potential new employers about you before you even get the chance to sell yourself. So, you need to know they are saying all the right things.
They need to know you intimately, so that can answer questions on your behalf in the early stages and answer them well. And this goes so much deeper than just what’s written on your CV. What makes you tick, what are your values, what skills are transferable from your roles into this role, what value will you add over and above the other candidates they are looking at. Know, like and trust your recruiter.
If you have a great relationship with your Niche Recruiter, and they invest the time they need to really understand you and your career path dreams, then they can absolutely sell you to their clients. If they’ve only had a brief conversation with you, or worse still, only chatted via email, then how can they answer any question posed?
So, there you have it, finding a good Niche Recruiter is like finding your soulmate, you value their opinions and feel safe and secure in their capable, professional hands. Plus, you’ll never want to let them go once you find a good one.
There are many different Recruiters out there, and take it from one who knows, some really are better than others. But use your gut instinct first, then your contacts to help seek out the better ones, and then work on building that all important relationship, making your Niche Recruiter your biggest champion.
